The Baltimore Orioles and Detroit Tigers have been creating a lot of chatter as expected sellers ahead of the 2026 MLB Trade Deadline.
While this is the case, they have now struck a deal together.
The Orioles have announced that they have acquired catcher Jake Rogers from the Tigers in exchange for pitcher Zane Barnhart.
Rogers will now provide the Orioles with another veteran catcher to work with. The 31-year-old appeared in 34 games this season with the Tigers before this trade, where he had three home runs, nine RBI, and a .161 batting average. He was designated for assignment earlier this week by the Tigers, but he has now found a new home with the Orioles.
In 362 games over six major league seasons, Rogers has recorded 47 home runs, 138 RBI, and a .197 batting average. The best season of his MLB career so far was in 2023, as he set career highs with 21 home runs and 49 RBI.
The Tigers, on the other hand, have now added a new pitching prospect to their system with Barnhart. The 24-year-old righty has yet to make the jump to the major level but has the potential to change that in the future.
In 31 appearances this season with Double-A Chesapeake before this trade, Barnhart had a 2-3 record, a 4.05 ERA, and 45 strikeouts. This was after he had a 3.83 ERA and 58 strikeouts in 36 appearances split between High-A and Double-A during the 2025 campaign.
Overall, this has the potential to be a solid small move for both the Orioles and Tigers. Baltimore has added to their catching depth with Rogers, while the Tigers have a new prospect to watch in Barnhart.
