Amanda Serrano beat Lucrecia Manzur to retain the WBA, WBO, and The Ring featherweight titles. Over 3.4 million viewers watched on TikTok as Serrano earned her 50th career win.
It wasn’t a pretty performance, but Serrano overcame adversity and got her hand raised.
Serrano (50-4-1) attempted to pass the great Christy Martin for the most knockouts by a female boxer. All eyes were on her. However, Manzur (14-5) did not care about records or her 50th win, as the Argentinian brought it to the champion early and often.
Manzur used brutal hooks to punish Serrano early in the fight. Serrano had a strong chin despite Manzur using it as target practice. Manzur continued to land as Serrano still tried to find her groove.
Around round five, Serrano finally found momentum. She landed combinations to the body and head of Manzur, who refused to back down. In round seven, Serrano hit combinations from the outside and in the clinch. She used a long jab to push Manzur back a few times, giving her a chance to breathe.
Serrano stormed back with great footwork, but Manzur would not give in. She continued to land combinations. Serrano had one last push in rounds eleven and twelve, even with Manzur hitting hard shots of her own. The judges saw enough to score the contest in favor of Serrano (114-114, 116-112, 116-112).
NESN scored it 115-113 for Manzur. Per CompuBox, Serrano landed 142 of 346 power shots (25% overall accuracy), while Manzur landed 118 of 282 shots (34% overall accuracy).
Manzur’s five-fight win streak has come to an end. Serrano has now won three straight since the Katie Taylor trilogy. It’s unknown what’s next for Serrano, but she could look to become undisputed again. She could also potentially face new MVP signing Skye Nicolson, a matchup years in the making. Or, she could retire.
