Amid contract discussions between Christian Gonzalez and the New England Patriots , it's worth looking at other players in the league when they get deals.
It was announced on Saturday that Seattle Seahawks star Devon Witherspoon agreed to a four-year, $132 million deal with the organization.
Witherspoon has been one of the best corners in the NFL since entering the league in 2023, often compared to a guy like Gonzalez because both players are so talented and young. This is a good benchmark for what the young Patriots corner might receive on his new deal, though it still remains uncertain when something will get done.
While many questions remain about what type of deal Gonzalez will get and how long it will take, the latest report suggests it could come faster than some realize after Witherspoon's deal, according to Albert Breer.
"In Sunday's MMQB Takeaways, we showed how similar the Bijan Robinson and Jahmyr Gibbs deals were, done less than 48 hours apart. So Christian Gonzalez's could well happen fast with Devon Witherspoon done, especially since they have the same agent," Breer wrote .
The Patriots have little reason to mess around with Gonzalez's deal.
Robert Kraft has said he is willing to make Gonzalez the highest-paid corner in the league, so he may have been waiting for Witherspoon to take this deal, but it's an interesting story to follow, especially after this news.
