In fact, as of right now, he is currently the winningest active QB in college football with 26 victories to his name. Now, he enters a whole new conference that will be much tougher to conquer. Luckily, he won't be doing it alone, as he followed his coach Matt Campbell from Iowa State to Happy Valley to continue their run of success together.
It's that winning culture and attitude that Becht emphasized during his first Big Ten media day.
"Being at Iowa State with (Campbell) for the past four years has taught me a lot," Becht said . "Just being under him, we have such a unique relationship that we've been able to build and grow over the past four years. It's something that I feel like has gotten me through my failures my first times. He knows exactly what to say, exactly what to do in those moments."
It's the reason Becht and Campbell as a duo worked so well for Iowa State, leading them to the most successful season in Iowa State history in 2024. Penn State fans hope that effort can translate over to them as they look back to getting into the CFP and potentially going on a deep run. Most importantly, that consistency is required in the Big Ten conference, where no game will come easy for any team.
While Penn State may have one of the easier schedules on paper, Becht, Campbell and Co. have to adapt to adversity on a dime and deliver wins when needed. It may not be the perfect season, but if it's one that builds a sense of culture and community, it doesn't have to be.
As Becht noted , "Bringing it here to Penn State, it's another resource for these guys to lay the foundation of the culture that he wants to build; the expectations, the standards that he wants to lay in the locker room".
