This past week, I asked the following question:
Whether you’re watching from home or cheering from the stands, what are your favorite game-day rituals and traditions? Do you have specific tailgating rituals if you attend the game in person? Do you have other rituals, lucky team swag you wear, or specific foods or drinks you have?
Below are some of your thoughts and answers
UpInPensacola has some delicious-sounding foods on deck for gameday.
Turn on the TVs in the kitchen and Florida room. Have Sunday lunch getting in the pipeline by 10:30 and done at 12:45 PM, which is normally around the end of the first quarter. Often gumbos/shrimp creole (Saints) and palomilla steak or black beans/rice/chicken (Dolphins). Water and tea in the hot months. Beer and wine in the cooler ones. There WILL be screaming and whooping! Neighbors beware. (Dog often runs away to another room with touchdowns, while neighbor’s dogs bark back.)
VolFaninFla does some praying pre-game, which seems appropriate given what we have seen from this team in the past.
Since games are normally on Sunday, heavy prayer they don’t lose but usually to no avail.
Bill Moody has a routine that might get changed up this coming season.
1. Check Fantasy News for any last minute line-up adjustments (for injuries only, otherwise, I don’t do last minute switcher as I spent all week picking the best guy)
2. Head to Pizza Place and watch games with friends (when Miami has a 10am Pacific start time).
3. Watch the late game at home.
I’ll probably switch it up this year:
1. Check Fantasty News
2. BBQ and play Magic the Gathering with friends all day, put redzone on in the background.
3. Watch the late game if its interesting, otherwise, play Fortnite or watch a show.
4. Catch highlights before bed.
TheRoo1 saves his drink until the Phins score a touchdown. Wondering what he felt like after the Phins blew out the Broncos a couple of seasons back.
I put a few premium ales on ice, and dont open one until the Phins score a td.
Have a feeling I wont be drinking much this year.
Phoenix6 fondly remembers when those kids were still living at home. We all miss that once our kids grow up!
Those are wonderful items of tradition James.
I used to have great fun with my boys as they grew up.
We’d hoop & holler as we watched, to the dismay of their mother LMAO.
Now up in age plus other circumstances as I aged, I haven’t done anything.
I still root like hell though!
And my sons and I talk a lot about our team & games.
Dolphster likes that I fly the Canes flag in Gator country and once had some food rituals that have since fallen by the wayside.
James, I love the fact that you fly your Hurricanes flag in Gainesville! I don’t really have any pregame rituals anymore, but in my 20s when I lived in Broward County, before watching every game on TV, I would go to Tarks in Dania Beach and pick up wings and steamed shrimp to take home and have while watching the game.
Well, that’s a solid list of things that us fans do or used to do, but sadly it’s the somewhat dead part of the year for the site, so there were not a lot of responses on this one.
