Not just with its story, as Doctor Doom does his best to destroy the multiverse along with the heroes inside it, but also visually. The trailers have shown that the film's palette is surprisingly muted. Lots of browns, yellows, and grays. Almost like the whole thing is shot at magic hour, late in the day, with the sun setting. And nowhere has that been more prominent than in this new version of the film's first trailer recreated in Lego.
While this kind of thing is usually handled by the fans, this time Marvel itself remade its first trailer for Avengers: Doomsday . The result is a level of quality most Lego recreations could never achieve, and also a significant brightening up of several scenes, just so you can make out the Lego characters. Check it out here.
Now, to be fair, it's not THAT different. It's official, so it has to somewhat capture the essence of the film itself. But specifically those scenes, presumably in and around Wakanda with Sue Storm and some large wall of water, look like a whole other film. My eyes hurt because it's so bright. On the other hand, other scenes are the opposite. You can hardly even see Gambit in his brief Shang-Chi fight. Did they just kind of forget to put a face on that character?
Whatever the case, this recreation mostly has us wondering what will be in store come December 18. Clearly, a movie with a cast this big makes having everyone on set together, shooting practically, a huge challenge. There will be cross-cutting. There will be action scenes in the dark to make them more cost-effective. But also, will the muted dark palette be additive at all? Will it help the audience feel the potential despair of the characters? Will it fit better in juxtaposition with its sequel, Secret Wars , in 2027? So much to consider as we get closer to release.
