Saints Work Out Pair of Veteran Receivers Amid Jordyn Tyson News

The New Orleans Saints were dealt a devastating blow early in the preseason when first-round pick Jordyn Tyson left a joint practice against the Jacksonville Jaguars with a right hamstring injury.
After further evaluation, Tyson is now expected to miss around two months, putting his potential return date around mid-October. For a player some viewed as arguably the best wide receiver in the 2026 class, that's the last thing Saints fans wanted to hear, especially since it's not the first time Tyson has dealt with hamstring injuries.
But it looks like the team is already exploring possible replacements, reportedly working out veteran wide receivers Chase Claypool and Josh Reynolds on Tuesday.

Claypool was a second-round pick at No. 49 overall in 2020 and entered the NFL with plenty of hype as a 6-foot-4, 240-pound red-zone threat. He showed exactly why during his rookie season with the Pittsburgh Steelers, hauling in 873 yards and nine touchdowns on 62 catches while averaging 14.1 yards per reception.
Claypool looked like he was on the verge of becoming one of the league's next premier receivers, but a wave of injuries, along with concerns about his effort and maturity, derailed his career and eventually cut his time in Pittsburgh short.
After two and a half seasons with the Steelers, Claypool was traded to the Chicago Bears and then again a year later to the Miami Dolphins. He signed a one-year contract with the Buffalo Bills in 2024, but was placed on injured reserve with a toe injury in August and never made his debut with the team. Now, the 28-year-old wideout is attempting another NFL comeback.
As for Reynolds, he's a bit older at 31 but has proven his value across multiple franchises. He has spent time with the Los Angeles Rams, Tennessee Titans, Detroit Lions, Denver Broncos, Jacksonville Jaguars and, most recently, the New York Jets.
Last season with the Jets, Reynolds recorded 11 catches on 21 targets for 101 yards through five games before landing on injured reserve with a hip injury midway through the season.

While Claypool may have more upside, Reynolds has already proven to be a valuable contributor for multiple playoff teams, most notably the Rams and Lions. He has also played in some of the league's biggest games, including Super Bowl LIII, and brings considerably more experience to a Saints receiver room that suddenly needs it.
Either player would be a welcome addition for New Orleans, which was relying on Tyson to line up opposite Chris Olave in the first-team offense.
