The NFL offseason is all but officially over for the defending Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks, with the regular season set to kick off on Wednesday, September 9.
To start the season off with a bang, the Hawks will be looking to open the 2026 campaign the same way they closed out 2025, and that is by thumping the New England Patriots. The Seahawks are currently 3.5 point favorites over the Pats at FanDuel Sportsbook , and coming away victorious would allow Mike Macdonald to claim a third win over the Pats in three seasons as head coach in Seattle.
Before getting to the game and on-field action, though, Seahawks general manager John Schneider will need to trim the roster from 91 players down to 53, which means no shortage of roster transactions in the coming days as the team makes the moves necessary to pare the roster down to the allowed limit.
Rather than simply waiving or releasing 38 players, there will almost certainly be players moved to injured reserve or traded away as Schneider works to build the fringes of the roster as competitively as possible. Regardless of the combination of moves Seattle makes, Field Gulls will work to keep readers up to date on all the rumored and reported transactions between now and 6 PM New York time on Sunday, August 30.

Seahawks waiving pass rusher Jalan Gaines
The Seahawks have informed OLB Jalan Gaines that he’s being waived, I’m told. Gaines, who made a great play at the goal line in the preseason finale, looks like a candidate for the practice squad. https://t.co/sXp8T30uKr
