See the full story · 3 sourcesThe announcement that Tom Cruise was trying to recapture that lucrative, decades-later Top Gun: Maverick sequel magic with a remake of 1990 race car drama Days Of Thunder appeared poised to bring long-absent Randy Quaid back into at least the periphery of the Star Whackers’ territory—at least according to the 75-year-old actor. Announcing in a video on Twitter/X last week, “Tom Cruise just called me. We’re making Days of Thunder 2 !,” Quaid’s very unverified claim (neither Cruise nor Paramount have commented) was then followed by the questionably associated actor (who played boisterous NASCAR Tim Daland in the Tony Scott-directed original) publicly demanding that the sequel’s just-announced leading lady be replaced.
“Anne Hathaway is a leftist, woke, horrible choice for DAYS OF THUNDER NASCAR audience who are MAGA,” Quaid posted on X, before citing Hathaway’s current pregnancy as rendering her “not sexy” enough to play the 64-year-old Cruise’s love interest in the 2028 film. Quaid then naturally began making profane demands for Cruise to instead cast his ex-wife Nicole Kidman to reprise her role as Dr. Claire Lewicki in the sequel, despite Cruise and Kidman’s very public and acrimonious 2001 divorce.
Taunting his onetime costar as a “pussy” if he doesn’t ditch Hathaway for a no-doubt uninterested Kidman, Quaid opined, “If I were in control of production, a real sequel worth watching for DAYS OF THUNDER would be seeing Tom and Nicole together on screen again. We don’t need a new girl; we need a new race car!” (It should be reiterated at this point that Randy Quaid is in no way in control of the production of a major studio sequel.)
Once-beloved character performer Quaid hasn’t been doing much professional acting since his infamous 2010 claims that “Hollywood Star-Whackers” were trying to murder him and his wife, Evi for… reasons. Indeed, Quaid has appeared in just two unheralded productions since then, if you don’t count the couple’s as-yet unreleased 2011 documentary “Star Whackers,” which purports to explain the nefarious reasons the Oscar nominee has become a conspiracy-spewing, Trump-loving figure of fun and/or pity over the last few decades.
