See the full story · 1 sourcesEvery player wants to hit the ground running and start the new season fast once training camp begins. But for which Indianapolis Colts players is this a must?
The reasons a strong training camp showing is vital can vary from player to player, but all three of these defensive players require a quick start once practices begin.
For a look at which Colts players on offense are under some pressure, you can find that here .
DE Jaylahn Tuimoloau
Tuimoloau will be competing with Arden Key for the starting role opposite of Laiatu Latu. Defensive end is a position that needs a more consistent pass rush around Latu this season. In 2025, the Colts ranked 30th in ESPN's pass rush win rate metric.
Key has been a solid contributor during his career, but hasn't produced at a high level. Tuimoloau possesses greater upside, and his ability to recognize that potential early on this season will go a long way in determining how disruptive the Colts' defensive end unit is.
DT Jerry Tillery and Derrick Nnadi
If we assume that DeForest Buckner, Grover Stewart, Colby Wooden, and Adetomiwa Adebawore account for four roster spots at defensive tackle, that then potentially leaves just one up for grabs. Deciding between Tillery and Nnadi could come down to whether the Colts want an added pass-rush presence, which Tillery provides, or a run-first defender, which Nnadi offers.
CB Jaylon Jones
What we know is that Charvarius Ward, Sauce Gardner, and Justin Walley account for three roster spots, which leaves two or three up for grabs. Competing for those roster spots are Jones, Mekhi Blackmon, Cam Taylor-Britt, Johnathan Edwards, and Cameron Mitchell.
Of those five players, two or three likely won't be on the final roster. Jones navigated injuries last season, but even when available, his role defensively in Lou Anarumo's scheme was small.
