While he mostly covers college football for ESPN, analyst Kirk Herbstreit also covers the NFL from time to time. He is also known for his beloved golden retriever, Peter, who is often seen at many of the games he calls. As he arrived in Cleveland for the Browns vs. Patriots preseason game, he brought the beloved canine along.
While many celebrated Peter’s appearance during the game, others, such as Boston media personality Gerry Callahan, were not as enthusiastic about the dog being there or about the love it was getting.
“Jesus, dude. Give it a rest. You’ve got a dog. Seems like a good dog. We’re happy for you. Can we stop treating him like he landed on Omaha Beach? He’s a dog.” he complained .
While a few commented that they were tired of Herbstreit showing off his dog, plenty of fans still showed Peter all the love.
Kirk Herbstreit Will Be Busy Calling NFL and College Football Games
As for Kirk Herbstreit himself, he will be busy on the road, so he could be getting a lot of emotional support from Peter as the new NFL and college football seasons finally begin.
He is slated to call 16 NFL regular-season games on Prime Video this year, along with the usual College GameDay broadcasts, which he did 21 of last year. He could also be calling Wild Card weekend playoff games in the NFL, as well as several postseason college football games. Whether or not Peter will be there is still up in the air.
