So let’s bring you some takeaways from this practice at The Greenbrier resort, where the Giants are holding their first two weeks of camp.
• Malik Nabers looks good: He didn’t fully participate in practice, but he showed plenty of encouraging signs, as he rehabs his torn ACL. Click here for more on what Nabers did Wednesday, when it continued to remain unclear whether he will be ready for Week 1.
• Cam Skattebo is back: As the Giants planned, he fully participated in Wednesday’s practice. He is coming off that serious ankle injury, but barring a setback, he will be ready for Week 1. • Jaxson Dart’s first day: This time a year ago, Dart was behind Russell Wilson (remember him?) as a rookie on the Giants’ depth chart. You know how all that wound up unfolding in 2025.
On Wednesday, the Giants kicked off Dart’s second NFL camp with a no-pads, no-contact practice. (Not that the contact part matters for Dart.)
So what went well for Dart on Wednesday?
Some impressions from team periods: Dart executed a crisp pass over the middle to Braxton Berrios. Facing pressure, Dart nicely lofted a throw to Chris Manhertz, over Abdul Carter’s coverage. Terrific touch there.
Dart later found a wide-open Darius Slayton deep, after Slayton beat Paulson Adebo. Dart led Slayton with that ball. Dart rolled right and zipped a pass to a sliding Isaiah Likely for a 15-yard gain. Another moment of nice touch.
And where did Dart struggle at times? (Again, just one day of camp here, so don’t read too much into any of this.)
He badly overthrew Odell Beckham deep down the sideline. During 7-on-7 drills, Dart almost tossed an interception to Jevon Holland — but Holland dropped it. An awful, sailed pass. Four reps later, Tremaine Edmunds was unable to haul in another should-have-been pick by Dart.
Dart did connect with Likely on a 7-on-7 pass, but Adebo might have broken it up, had he been more aggressive.
• Paulson Adebo’s rough day: Just one day, but he continues to very much not look like a No. 1 corner. That was the case last year.
We mentioned those two moments above with his coverage (or lack thereof) on Slayton and Likely. Near the end of practice, Calvin Austin pulled in a 25-yard pass from Dart. Austin slid as he caught the ball. Nice play there. He had beaten Adebo to get open.
Meanwhile, Greg Newsome continued to work as the first-team cornerback opposite Adebo. Don’t be surprised if intriguing rookie Colton Hood winds up pushing for one of those starting jobs — perhaps during the season, even if Hood doesn’t start in Week 1.
• Field goal battle: Ben Sauls emerged from the spring well behind Dominic Zvada. On Wednesday, Sauls showed improvement, even though he missed from 61 yards to end practice, amid a slight wind.
During game-situation kicks just prior to that, Sauls connected from 45, while Zvada was good from 33.
Earlier in practice, Sauls went 5-for-5 on sequential attempts from 34, 37, 43, 48 and 51. Zvada took those same shots — and missed from 34 and 43.
Still plenty ahead in this battle. Sauls won’t go quietly, it seems.
• Other notable moments: On one of the final plays of practice, Theo Johnson dropped a short, easy pass over the middle.
Kayvon Thibodeaux burst into the backfield and broke up a screen pass by Jameis Winston. But will the Giants trade Thibodeaux before 2026 ends?
Earlier in practice, Winston had his usual deep-ball moment when he found Berrios for a 45-yard touchdown. Berrios burned Nic Jones, who (like Berrios) is battling to make the roster.
Malachi Fields showcased his intriguing catch radius by going up and getting a pass from Winston over the middle. Fields will be a factor in the Giants’ offense this season. Might he unseat Slayton, opposite Nabers?
