Erling Haaland left fans and his fellow players stunned after debuting a new haircut ahead of the new season, with Manchester City beating Bournemouth 2-1 on Sunday.
Haaland’s iconic bun had become a recognisable part of his look, but the City striker opted for a dramatic change that quickly caught everyone’s attention.
The Norwegian then video-called several of his soccer friends and former colleagues, including ex-City manager Pep Guardiola and Jack Grealish. However, Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s reaction to the new hairstyle stood out.
Haaland’s video call has since gone viral, capturing the reactions of those on the other end. Before calling Ibrahimovic, the striker recalled the Swede’s warning against cutting his hair.
“Zlatan told me, never cut your hair, because your strength is in your hair. I’m a bit nervous. I want a buzz cut, like in the military,” Haaland said.

When Ibrahimovic answered the call, he appeared shocked by Haaland’s transformation.
“What did you do? You lost a bet or what? Block me and erase my number.”
Guardiola, however, had a much more positive reaction to the new look.
“No way. You’re lucky you have hair. I would love to have it. I love it.”
Grealish also poked fun at his former Manchester City teammate’s appearance.
“You look about 10 years old. That is hilarious. I can’t stop looking at the front of your hair. I love it.”
With Haaland sporting a new look, Norwegian and Manchester City fans will be hoping the fresh style brings him plenty of luck and inspires another prolific goalscoring season.
