See the full story · 2 sourcesIt's been seven years since Miami Dolphins fans harbored this much dread heading into the season. Back then, the Dolphins were coming off the middling run by Adam Gase that started with hope and a playoff berth but ended with back-to-back years of misery as a proclaimed offensive genius looked incapable of moving the football.
If that sounds familiar, you've been watching the Dolphins over the Mike McDaniel era. That time is done. Tua Tagovailoa, Tyreek Hill , Jaylen Waddle, Bradley Chubb and most of the other notable names from that stretch are gone. And now with training camp set to open, Miami is once again a front-runner for the No. 1 overall pick in next year's NFL draft.
But there's still plenty to watch for this year. For one, De'Von Achane is bound to run wild as the clear top target; how many yards can he rack up? How will Malik Willis look out from under the shadow of Jordan Love? If he indeed plays like the quarterback of the future, what other holes might the new front office fill in the draft? Can new coach Jeff Hafley mold this defense and a young stable of potential playmakers into what the Packers have been over the past few years?
Granted, it won't be pretty this year. Going off last year's records, Miami has the second-hardest schedule in the league, according to ESPN . It'll get especially tough once the calendar hits December, starting with a trip to Denver to face Waddle and his new team, which earns the No. 1 seed in the AFC in 2025.
They won't get to catch the Patriots in the South Florida heat this year; Drake Maye and the defending conference champs visit at the start of November. They could sneak one in on the Chiefs in their home opener if Patrick Mahomes' knee isn't fully recovered from his ACL tear, though he has been cleared to fully participate in training camp. The five-win benchmark set by the 2019 team that led to drafting Tagovailoa might be an aspirational goal.
There are about three weeks until the new-look Dolphins play in their first preseason game. Here's a look at the schedule, as well as the Dolphins' roster to open the 2026 season.
