They didn't just secure two cornerstone defensive tackles. They also sent a message to every player hoping to earn a second contract.
Philadelphia takes care of its own.
General manager Howie Roseman revealed the organization entered the offseason hoping to secure both defensive tackles with long-term deals , reinforcing the franchise's long-standing commitment to building through the trenches.
"It's hard to find guys like that," Roseman said. Davis was extended in March . His good friend, Jalen Carter's deal, followed on the first day of camp . Timing and the market were both key.

Rather than allowing uncertainty to linger into training camp, the Eagles rewarded two foundational players they believe can anchor the defense for years to come.
That should make future negotiations a little less stressful.
No, extensions aren't guaranteed simply because a player performs well. Nolan Smith still has to prove he's worthy of a lucrative second contract. Moro Ojomo's future in Philadelphia seems less certain now . Several other young contributors have futures that have yet to be determined. What those players can expect, however, is honesty. Roseman has developed a track record of communicating openly with players and their representatives.
Even Dallas Goedert's contract situation, which at one point appeared headed toward an awkward ending, was resolved without public drama before both sides reached common ground. That's become one of the Eagles' greatest organizational strengths.
Players know where they stand, even if the answer isn't always the one they hope to hear. So if Eagles fans are already wondering about future extensions for Quinyon Mitchell or Cooper DeJean, there's little reason to panic.
Philadelphia has repeatedly demonstrated that it identifies its core players early and works aggressively to keep them in midnight green whenever possible. Not every negotiation will end with a new contract, but after seeing how the Eagles handled Carter and Davis, future extension talks should begin with something every successful organization values: trust.
