One man was killed and two others were injured in an early morning shooting Sunday that marks San Jose’s 16th homicide this year, authorities said.
San Jose police officers responded to a report of a shooting in the area of Seventh Street and Leo Avenue at approximately 2:55 a.m. on July 26.
Upon arrival, officers located two men suffering from at least one gunshot wound each, according to the San Jose Police Department.
Despite lifesaving measures, one victim was pronounced dead at the scene. The second man was transported to a local hospital in critical condition and was later stabilized.
Simultaneously, officers observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed near 11th Street and Humboldt Street. Officers conducted an enforcement stop and discovered a third man inside the vehicle who was also suffering from at least one gunshot wound. He was transported to a local hospital for treatment, and his injuries were later determined to be non-life-threatening.
The SJPD’s Homicide Unit responded to the scene and is investigating the incident. The motive and circumstances surrounding the shooting remain under investigation.
