The team confirmed Melifonwu's signing and also announced that they have signed defensive tackle Travis Shaw to their 90-man roster.
Shaw played at North Carolina and Texas before going undrafted this year. He signed with the Patriots after the draft, but was waived earlier this month.
The move comes as the Bucs practice without defensive tackle Vita Vea. Vea has requested a trade, but head coach Todd Bowles said that he is on the sideline due to tweaking his back during a conditioning test this week.
The Bucs waived defensive lineman Haggai Ndubuisi on Wednesday as well. Ndubuisi signed with the team in April.
