See the full story · 2 sourcesThe Chicago Bears were back at training camp on Saturday for their fourth practice of the summer, and there was plenty to break down from Day 4 , including the performance of quarterback Caleb Williams.
Williams is entering his third season following a breakout sophomore campaign where he set a franchise single-season passing record, led an NFL record seven fourth quarter comebacks (including the postseason) while leading Chicago to an 11-6 record, NFC North title and playoff win. That was all in one season with head coach Ben Johnson. Now, all eyes are on Williams this summer as he continues to develop under Johnson and make a huge leap in Year 3.
We’re taking a look at the good, the bad and the noteworthy with Williams from the fourth practice of Bears training camp:
The Good
It was a rough day for Williams and the offense on Saturday amid sloppy conditions, and there wasn't anything positive reported about Williams from Day 4. But Williams had been sharp for the first three practices before what probably might be the offense's worst showing for the entirety of training camp. The Bears' social media account did share a nice completion from Williams for second-year wideout Jahdae Walker.

After a dominant first three practices at training camp, quarterback Caleb Williams and the offense had their worst showing of the summer in the rain. According to Herb Howard , "Caleb was not sharp today with his accuracy nor timing. He and Luther Burden, dominant to this point in camp, could not sync up. It was a combination of timing, inaccuracy, and a drop." According to Bear Report, "Williams was visibly upset after that (7-on-7) drill, taking off his helmet and walking to the sideline in frustration." In the end-of-half two-minute drill, Williams threw three straight incompletions to Burden, per Bear Report . Jeff Buckhalter added that Williams had a "few rough reps/attempts/near picks" during practice.
The Noteworthy
This was "by far the worst day of training camp weather-wise," according to Bear Report , where "it rained all night and continued on throughout the morning. The fields were soggy and the team eventually closed practice to the fans." That had an impact on Williams and the passing game. Adam Hoge noted that there were "too many drops in the slick conditions too. Most of practice was in a light rain." According to Zack Pearson , it "felt like the first team offense couldn’t get into a rhythm. Drops. Slipping."
