After months of negotiations and impasses, Real Madrid have finally managed to secure the long-term future of superstar Vinicius Jr., who has now signed a six-year contract with the club.
“Real Madrid CF and Vinicius Jr. have agreed to extend the contract of our player, who is now tied to the club until June 30, 2032,” the club statement read.
A long-awaited breakthrough
Real Madrid and Vinicius have been in talks over a new contract for over a year without being able to make meaningful progress.
Salary and renewal bonus demands were at the centre of the standoff between the two parties, but everything changed this week during a meeting on Wednesday.
With Vinicius having entered the final year of his contract at the club, Arsenal entered the fray to try and sign the Brazilian.
Given the Gunners’ concrete interest, Real Madrid decided to improve their contract offer for Vinicius, while not fully meeting his earlier demands.
Following the positive discussions yesterday, the two parties worked out the finer details and have now announced the contract extension until 2032.
Vinicius reacts
Following the announcement of his renewal, Vinicius, who had scrubbed his Instagram profile on Wednesday, reacted by posting a story of the confirmation, with the following message:
“Eight years at the Bernabeu are too short… 6 more years and forever!”
The 26-year-old winger has always maintained that he sees Real Madrid as the club of his life and always prioritised staying at the Bernabeu.
Having finally resolved the contract situation, both Vinicius and Real Madrid will be hoping to enjoy a successful season after back-to-back difficult campaigns.
