Liverpool still need to add a lot of players to their ranks before they can start competing for silverware again.
Indeed, Andoni Iraola's arrival will certainly help give the team a bit of a boost but, with the number of injuries he still has to deal with, there's not really enough quality among their ranks at the moment.
The summer transfer window has already been open for well over a month and, since Liverpool's chance to make deals is slowly disappearing, it feels like some major moves need to made quickly.
One of their weakest areas at the moment is their defence, especially now that Joe Gomez has been side-lined once again .
Nobody knows how long the Englishman is going to be absent for and, since Iraola's other three options are also unavailable, they have no senior centre-backs among their ranks who can feature.
This is obviously a massive problem which is why the club need to make their move for a new centre-back as soon as possible.
Cesc Fabregas is lining up a move for Jhon Lucumi, opening the door for a Jacobo Ramon exit
As mentioned, Liverpool's defence is in a bit of a shambles at the moment.
Virgil van Dijk is still on a break due to the time he spent with the Netherlands at the World Cup and, others such as Jeremy Jacquet and Giovanni Leoni are still unavailable due to injury.
Indeed, it's still only pre-season so most of the Reds' centre-back's should be back in contention by the start of the 2026-27 Premier League campaign but, with the number of injuries Liverpool suffered last term, having just four centre-back options for an entire campaign feels rather risky.
That's why most fans and journalists expect the Reds to get at least one deal for a defender over the line with a fresh update from Fabrizio Romano making it obvious who they should target this summer.
"EXCL: Como open talks for Jhon Lucumí as new target at centre back as Colombian defender could leave Bologna," he wrote .
"Juventus are also keen on Lucumì since June and remain attentive to the situation."

One of Liverpool's main transfer strategies over the last couple of windows has been to prepare for the future.
A lot of clubs have already been doing this and, while the Reds have tried their hand at it, they've not managed to pull off a successful move for youngster for some time now.
Leoni, Jacquet and Kerkez are the best examples of this from last summer with each of them having massive ceilings which they are expected to reach while playing for Liverpool.
However, since players such as Mohamed Salah, Andy Robertson and Ibrahima Konate have all exited L4 this term, some fans are now asking for experience to be brought in instead.
But, that is clearly not the way that Liverpool are going with their main targets being young players with plenty of potential.
This is why, if Como end up signing Lucumi, Ramon would be a perfect signing for Liverpool .
The 21-year-old has only spent a season with Cesc Fabregas' men but, he's quickly emerged as one of their most important players.
His performances in the Serie A have led to many clubs from around the world showing an interest in him with some rumours even emerging about a potential return to Real Madrid.
However, all the advances that have been made so far have been stopped due to Como's lack of depth but, if Lucumi joins, a deal for Ramon could definitely be on.
It's unclear how much the Spaniard would cost but, if Liverpool want to continue preparing for the future and want to end up replacing Van Dijk next summer, Ramon could be the perfect player to help them do that.
