Hong wasn't on the early list of registered gymnasts published last Monday and also did not register before the deadline last Friday ( registered athletes list as of Monday is here ). Hong has not announced publicly why he will miss nationals.
Last year, Hong crushed the U.S. Championships field by 7.465 points over two days of competition, a record margin under a two-decade-old scoring system.

He returned for his senior season at Stanford early this year, helping the Cardinal to a third NCAA men's team title in his four years in Palo Alto.
Fellow 2024 Olympic team bronze medalist Brody Malone will also miss nationals as he takes a break from competition this year with an eye on returning in 2027 . Hong and Malone combined to win the last five U.S. all-around titles.
One man in this week's field has won a national all-around title — Tokyo Olympian Yul Moldauer, who did so in 2017. The field also includes 2024 Olympic bronze medalist Frederick Richard, who won the 2024 Olympic Trials all-around.
