Klay Thompson may have taken exception to his former teammate, Kevin Durant , bringing him up in his comments about the championship-winning Golden State Warriors dynasty.
In a recent social media comment, Durant explained that the new Philadelphia 76ers starting five is a better team than the Warriors team he was on. His previous Golden State lineups included KD, Stephen Curry, Thompson, and Draymond Green.
"ain't close Imao. Joel, MVP recently. Jaylen brown, recent Finals MVP, Tyrese Maxey, All-Star the last 3 years. We all know what Bron does. Klay Thompson, never a MVP candidate in nothing, 22ppg. Draymond, 14ppg 7 rebounds 6 assist, Steph a MVP just like Joel was. I don't get how the Warriors team is better on paper," Durant replied.
"Aye man u good? @easymoneysniper What u using my full government for 22?" Thompson wrote in his response, as revealed in a screenshot by Legion Hoops .
Durant's remarks follow up on previous interview comments he made in which he compared the new-look 76ers to the former Warriors team. He mentioned that when he was playing for the Warriors and they won championships, the team had three 20-plus-point scorers in the starting lineup, including himself, Thompson, and Curry.
Many consider the previous Warriors teams featuring Durant and his fellow All-Stars some of the greatest in NBA history. KD joined in 2016, and that addition helped the franchise add back-to-back championships in 2017 and 2018. Durant claimed NBA Finals MVP in both of those wins, the only two championships of his career.
While Thompson was never an MVP, he was a huge part of the Warriors winning a championship before KD's arrival, and another within the past four years. So Thompson can call himself a four-time champion, as well as five-time NBA All-Star, and one of the greatest shooters in NBA history.
Whether or not Durant responds publicly, or lets it slide, this has all the makings of an on-court feud, depending on when the two former teammates meet up in the coming season.
