See the full story · 3 sourcesChicago Bears training camp is in full swing ahead of the 2026 regular season. Under second-year head coach Ben Johnson, the Bears are looking to build on their success from last year and keep pace in a crowded NFC with important meetings and practices at Halas Hall.
After a light practice, Johnson dialed things up on Thursday when the pads came back on. The intensity was noticeable, though a few players did have to exit early with injuries. Still, players on both sides of the ball locked in for a busy practice.
Following every Bears training camp practice, we at Bears Wire will highlight the top players who stood out on the field. Here are the players who stood out on Day 6 of practice:
1. OT Darnell Wright
Darnell Wright is making sure he earns his new money in practice. A few days after signing a four-year extension, Wright showed why he was worth the big payday. ESPN's Courtney Cronin noted Wright didn't lose a single rep against defensive end Montez Sweat during their 1-on-1 battles. The pair went up against one another three times, with Wright coming out victorious. It sounds like Wright is already in midseason form and should have no problem living up to his new contract during the regular season.
2. DT Jordan van den Berg
Rookie defensive tackle Jordan van den Berg is starting to turn some heads up at Halas Hall. Slowly but surely, van den Berg has started making more and more plays during practice, with Thursday being the best yet. Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune observed the rookie blowing up the third-team offensive line during the 9-on-7 period, as well as him overpowering Luke Newman and Logan Jones during 1-on-1 drills. Van den Berg also saw time with the starters during run drills, according to CHGO's Adam Jahns, which could be a sign of what's to come if his development continues this camp.
3. K Cairo Santos
It's always a good sign when the kicking game goes under the radar at training camp. Not many people probably know that Cairo Santos has been absolute money on field goals during camp, and he continued his hot streak on Thursday. Biggs reports Santos hit all six of his field goal attempts, including three that were beyond 50 yards. Santos has hit all but two field goal attempts since training camp began, a great sign going into the regular season. And he's doing it while the team works with multiple long snappers.
