Reigning Formula 1 world champion Lando Norris has extended his contract with McLaren until at least 2030. <p>The 26-year-old Brit's previous extension, which was announced ahead of the start of the 2024 season, was understood to tie him to the team until at least the end of 2027.</p><p>He will now stay at McLaren for at least another four seasons with the extended deal to the end of 2030 including "a multi-year option to commit beyond that date".</p><ul><li><strong><a href="https://www.skysports.com/f1/standings">F1 2026 standings</a> | <a href="https://www.skysports.com/f1/schedule-results">F1 2026 calendar</a> | <a href="https://www.skysports.com/f1/live-blog/12433/12466779/f1-news-rumours-and-gossip-formula-1-latest-updates-on-teams-driver-transfer-market-and-contracts">F1 Gossip Column</a></strong></li><li><a href="https://qrcode.skysports.com/skysports/ContentPromo" target="_blank"><strong>Download the Sky Sports app for expert analysis, best video & more</strong></a><strong>\ud83d\udcf1</strong></li><li><strong>Not got Sky? </strong><a href="https://www.sky.com/tv/sports?dcmp=Ilc_skysports_nc_articlelink" target="_blank"><strong>Latest Sky Sports deals</strong></a><strong> or </strong><a href="http://www.nowtv.com/membership/watch-sky-sports?DCMP=ilc_skysports_nc_articlelink" target="_blank"><strong>stream F1 with no contract</strong></a> <strong>\ud83d\udcfa</strong></li></ul><p>Norris claimed the 2025 title to become Britain's 11th world champion, and the first McLaren driver to triumph since Lewis Hamilton in 2008.</p><p>Saturday's announcement of the new deal follows Norris winning last weekend in the Netherlands to claim the 13th Grand Prix victory of his F1 career.</p><widget id="3"></widget><p>Norris said: "McLaren is my home, and I'm very pleased to be signing a new contract to keep me with the team until at least 2030.</p><p>"When I started this journey nine years ago, I was clear about the goals I wanted to achieve: to get McLaren back to the front and to win championships.</p> <widget id="8"></widget><p>"We've achieved that goal, but we want more, we want to keep on winning, and we know as a team that we're capable of achieving it."</p> <widget id="7"></widget><p>Team principal Andrea Stella described Norris as "an exceptional driver, someone who combines outstanding natural speed with maturity, consistency and a strong commitment to McLaren".</p><p>"But above all, he is a special human being who is valued by everyone in the team," added Stella.</p><p>"Since joining McLaren as part of our junior programme, he has grown with us and played a central role in bringing the team back to the front of Formula 1."</p><p>After McLaren, the reigning constructors' champions, failed to claim a Grand Prix win across the opening 10 rounds of the season, Norris has won back-to-back races to reignite hope that he could yet defend his title.</p> <widget id="2"></widget><p>Norris is fourth in the drivers' standings, 83 points back from leader Kimi Antonelli with 11 rounds remaining. Norris must also leapfrog Antonelli's Mercedes team-mate George Russell and Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton, who both trail the Italian by 59 points.</p><p>Norris is driving his eighth season for McLaren, having been given his F1 debut by the team as a 19-year-old in 2019. His 163 Grand Prix starts are a team record, with Norris having surpassed fellow Brit David Coulthard's mark of 150 at last year's Qatar Grand Prix.</p><p>McLaren's other driver, Oscar Piastri, last year signed a contract extension that ties him to the team until at least the end of the 2028 season.</p><p>McLaren were briefly linked with a move for Max Verstappen earlier this summer, but the four-time world champion recently ended speculation over his future by signing a contract extension - also until 2030 - with Red Bull.</p> <widget id="6"></widget><p>On Norris' contract, Stella added: "This extension gives us important continuity and reinforces our confidence in the direction we are taking together.</p><p>"With him and Oscar, we know we can count not only on one of the strongest partnerships but also on one of the most united and close-knit teams in Formula 1."</p><p>Chief executive Zak Brown said: "[Norris'] journey with the team is a fantastic example of our commitment to identifying, developing and supporting world-class talent, and his achievements speak for themselves.</p><p>"Together with Andrea, Oscar and the wider team, Lando has helped drive McLaren into a new papaya era of success... We are extremely excited about what lies ahead and remain fully focused on continuing to compete for wins and championships."</p><h3>'Four more years fighting for championships'</h3><p>Norris has played a key role in helping McLaren transition from being a midfield team when he joined to returning to the front of the grid.</p><p>He and Piastri led the team to a first constructors' title for 26 years in 2024, before adding his maiden drivers' title the following season after coming out on top of an intense battle with his team-mate and Verstappen.</p> <widget id="4"></widget><p>Asked during an exclusive interview with <em>Sky Sports News</em> whether it was an easy decision to sign an extension, Norris replied: "I would say so.</p><p>"After what we've achieved the last two years, over just the fun that we've had together since 2019, nowhere else I want to be, to be honest with you.</p><p>"I know we can achieve a lot more together here, exactly where I am, and I'm very excited about our future together."</p> <widget id="5"></widget><p>Norris is open to the idea of spending his whole career at McLaren, and says he would be "so proud" to leave F1 having only driven for the Woking squad.</p><p>"I don't know what the future holds," Norris said.
