Washington Huskies Receive Ranking in Preseason Media Poll
The Washington Huskies are a month away from beginning the 2026-27 season in an Apple Cup showdown against the Washington State Cougars at 1 p.m. PT on Sept. 6 at Husky Stadium in Seattle.
The upcoming season will be the third under current head coach Jedd Fisch, which resulted in positive results in his previous stops.
Fisch's time with the Huskies marks the second rebuild in two stops for the head coach.
Fisch coached from 2021-23 at his previous stop, the Arizona Wildcats . He led Arizona to 1-11 in his first season, 5-7 in his second and 10-3 in his third.
In Fisch's first year as head coach of Washington in 2024, UW went 6-7. Last year, the team finished 9-4 after a 38-10 win in the Los Angeles Bowl against the Boise State Broncos.
There's a healthy amount of expectations for the third year to again mark a special one for a Fisch-coached team. The Huskies have been featured on several preseason Top 25 polls from various publications.
The windup to the upcoming season has officially begun, with Big Ten media days beginning Tuesday at Hilton Chicago.
Ahead of the event, the media preseason rankings poll was released for the 18-team conference was released.
Washington was ranked seventh by assorted media at Big Ten media days. The six teams ranked ahead of them were, in order: the Ohio State Buckeyes , the Oregon Ducks , the defending national champions Indiana Hoosiers , the Southern California Trojans, the Michigan Wolverines and Penn State Nittany Lions .
The 11 teams the Huskies are ranked ahead of are, in order: the Iowa Hawkeyes , the Illinois Fightin' Illini , the Minnesota Golden Gophers, the Nebraska Cornhuskers , Wisconsin Badgers, UCLA Bruins, Northwestern Wildcats , Maryland Terrapins, Michigan State Spartans , Rutgers Scarlet Knights and Purdue Boilermakers.
If Washington meets the preseason expectations it has from outside sources and within its own program, it will likely be in prime contention for a CFP spot for this upcoming season. It would be the third CFP berth in the program's history and the first in the 12-team format.

Fisch and Huskies players, junior quarterback Demond Williams Jr., senior center Landen Hatchett and senior linebacker Jacob Manu, will speak on the final day of Big Ten Media Days on Thursday. Fisch will have an individual news conference at the beginning of the event and the aforementioned players will talk throughout the day on the Big Ten Network and Big Ten social media platforms.
