The San Francisco 49ers feel like that team that could go either way next season. So, it makes sense that NFL analysts have a hard time predicting just what will happen with this legendary franchise in 2026.
Ralph Vacchiano of Fox Sports gave his take on this franchise in a new feature out on Tuesday. In it, he ranks every NFL team as training camp starts, and he puts them at No. 12 on the tally.
No. 12 is actually pretty good, and there are plenty of other teams that would love that position. But, the 49ers aren't just any other team.
San Francisco 49ers are at No. 12 in new power ranking
So, when it comes to this lukewarm ranking, Vacchiano points out that the team's tough schedule has a lot to do with it.
"They’ve got some injury issues with TE George Kittle and DE Nick Bosa and a really tough travel schedule to navigate," he says. "But all the pieces are there, as long as they get rid of the distraction/headache of WR Brandon Aiyuk at some point."
It's certainly the case that all of the pieces are there for this team in 2026. If they can stay healthy and navigate that tough schedule, there's no reason to believe they can't go far this season.
For what it's worth, he selected the Los Angeles Rams as the No. 1 team heading into training camp. So, it's a foe in the 49ers' division.
"Some are already calling the Rams 'The Dream Team' after they reloaded this offseason," he says. "Just imagine how dangerous they’re going to be if the rumors turn out to be true and former All-Pro defensive lineman Aaron Donald comes out of retirement."
