Back to school is right around the corner (if it hasn’t happened already), the days are cooling off, and the cinemas slowly transition from summer blockbusters to prestige pictures and awards hopefuls. Now up is La Bola Negra , a film that won the Best Director award at this year’s Cannes (shared by directors Javier Calvo and Javier Ambrossi, known as “Los Javis”) and is gearing up to open in the States. Netflix actually feels good enough about this one to give it a theatrical release, and it’s not hard to see why from the first teaser for the film, which features some truly gorgeous cinematography.
The streamer didn’t share much of a synopsis for the film, just that “ La Bola Negra tells the story of three generations of men whose lives are intimately connected through desire, pain, and love.” The film stars Guitarricadelafuente in his acting debut (American audiences may or may not recognize him from a collaboration with Troye Sivan a couple of years ago ) opposite Miguel Bernardeau. The rest of the cast is described as an ensemble, which includes Carlos González, Milo Quifes, Lola Dueñas, Julio Torres, Penélope Cruz, and Glenn Close. La Bola Negra opens in theaters on October 16, and we imagine on Netflix not too long after that.
