MLB teams won't get another look at a potential trade candidate before Monday's trade deadline.
The Detroit Tigers scratched Casey Mize from Friday night's scheduled start against the Athletics, according to The Athletic's Cody Stavenhagen . Mize is healthy, and the Tigers have no deal in place for the 29-year-old, but they'll skip him as a precaution.
Mize is now scheduled to start Tuesday's game against the Seattle Mariners. Of course, that hinges on him staying with Detroit through the deadline.
Mize has followed a 2025 All-Star campaign with even better results this season. The right-hander has registered a 2.70 ERA, 0.99 WHIP and career-high 24.9 percent strikeout rate in 16 stellar starts.

Most of the attention has gone to whether the Tigers will trade Tarik Skubal, but Mize could also significantly bolster a contender's rotation for a playoff push. His 2.58 FIP ranks sixth , right above Skubal's 2.61, among all starting pitchers who have worked at least 80 innings.
Like Skubal, Mize is a free agent after the 2026 season. That could compel the 51-58 Tigers to move the former No. 1 pick despite remaining within reach of a playoff spot.
The Athletic's Jim Bowden wrote Friday morning that the Tigers are expected to trade Mize, Skubal, second baseman Gleyber Torres and closer Kenley Jansen before the deadline.
