It's game week, as Texas A&M's 2026 season opener vs. Missouri State will kick off on Saturday night, and after a productive preseason, Aggie fans can rejoice knowing that the long offseason has officially ended, and while we in the media did our best to provide coverage of the preseason, Texas A&M's media team released a nearly 20 minute video detailing the entire preseason, and several key storylines.
Going back to the early parts of the offseason, senior linebacker Daymion Sanford , who suffered a brutal fibula injury during the Maroon & White Game, as fully expected to miss at least half of the 2026 season, but after three months of recovery, the star defender showed up at SEC Media Days without a boot, while he and coach Mike Elko were confident that an early return was imminent.
Through the entire preseason, Sanford has looked nearly 100% healed, especially his lower-body strength, which was detailed in the video titled "The Foundation - a story of fall camp," showing the long-term healing process that is still incredible to witness given the level of his injury.
Beyond Sanford's status, redshirt quarterback Marcel Reed's second full season as the starter is by far his most important yet; after passing for 3,169 yards, 25 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions, he needed to focus on fixing his mechanical issues and eliminating mental mistakes.
Based on two scrimmages, Marcel Reed's deep ball accuracy has improved, while several defenders, including cornerback and projected starting nickel Jordan Shaw, praised the veteran QB's decision-making and command of the offense.
Lastly, alongside Daymion Sanford, transfer Ray Coney, junior Jordan Lockhart, and sophomore Noah Mikhail make up an intriguing linebacker rotation that new defensive coordinator Lyle Hemphill said was "without a doubt" the unit that surprised him most.
