The latest addition to the MCU is none other than the X-Men's Emma Frost. Deadline reported Friday that Marvel Studios and X-Men director Jake Schreier have found their White Queen, with actor Samara Weaving pegged to play the telepathic mutant.
Weaving is best known for her roles in horror franchises like The Babysitter, Ready or Not, and Scream — and, of course, from her appearance in a recent episode of Polygon's Shelf Quest series. Weaving has also starred in more serious dramas, including Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri and Carolina Caroline .
Marvel Studios has not officially announced casting for its new X-Men movie, but plenty of names have been bandied about, including Adam Driver as Mister Sinister, Cailee Spaeny as Rogue, and Charles Melton as Beast. X-Men fans are hoping for confirmation from Marvel Studios at next month's D23 fan event, where Disney is expected to reveal more of its future projects.
Emma Frost, aka the White Queen, was introduced to Marvel Comics canon in 1980 in the pages of The Uncanny X-Men #129. Originally a member of the Hellfire Club, Frost has evolved from a former foe of the X-Men to one of the team's central figures and leaders. Emma Frost has telepathic abilities and the power to transform her body into organic diamond.
Frost has been portrayed in live action previously; she was played by January Jones in X-Men: First Class . The character has also been prominently featured in X-Men: The Animated Series (voiced by Tracey Moore) and in X-Men '97 ( voiced by Zehra Fazal ).
Weaving already has a family connection to the MCU: Her uncle Hugo Weaving played Johann Shmidt/Red Skull in Captain America: The First Avenger , though he did not reprise that role in Avengers: Infinity War .
Marvel Studios' new X-Men movie does not have a release date. Marvel has three films on its 2028 slate, two of which are occupied by Black Panther 3 and Ghost Rider . Next up for Marvel Studios is Avengers: Doomsday in December and Avengers: Secret Wars in December 2027.
