Pokopia’s Massive 2.0 Patch Makes Pokémon Stop Being Divas
Pokémon Pokopia ’s Bubbly Basin expansion is out today, bringing new Pokémon, habitats, and much more to the life sim. However, even if you don’t want to buy the $35 expansion pass, the game itself has a big free 2.0 update that everyone benefits from, even though it also kills one of the funniest jokes the game spawned when it launched back in March.
The full patch notes run down all the changes, including the addition of the Dive ability that lets you explore and build homes underwater. After a list of new features, the patch notes also mention several improvements and quality-of-life changes. Two of these address one of the most annoying little grievances in Pokopia , which is how Pokémon react when you’re trying to move stuff around. Pokémon live in habitats you create inside its various biomes. These can be made up of a few props, specific patches of grass, or bodies of water, and while you don’t need to set them up in a specific way, Pokémon are very particular about all the components of a habitat being in place to recognize it as their home. As a result, if you move something ever so slightly, even a tile off from where it once was, they react as if a tornado came along, lifted their home from the ground, and took it to Oz.

That video might seem exaggerated, but here’s a clip of someone moving an object in Pokopia and upsetting an entire community.
Why did the entire town gather? 😭😭😭 #pokopia
Because of how the habitat system is baked into Pokopia ’s code, moving a piece of furniture is perceived as quite literally destroying a home because all its components must be present for the game to recognize it as a living space, and then you have to go through the whole process of re-inviting a Pokémon to live in the space once you put that piece where you want it. Now, after the 2.0 patch, Pokémon are going to be more chill about this, so long as you do actually recreate their habitat.
Even if a Pokémon’s habitat is destroyed, it will move back in if the same habitat is rebuilt within a certain area.
Pokémon that are sad because furniture was removed will now notice more quickly when the same furniture is replaced.
I will miss the jokes, but I will not miss some overly sensitive ‘mon bugging me because I wanted to move a rock to the other side of the house. The full patch notes are as follows:
The following improvements have been implemented.
We have made several additional adjustments and fixed a number of bugs to improve the overall gameplay experience.
I swear I'll be more organized this time
