See the full story · 1 sourcesArgus Leader readers spent the last week putting together their Mount Rushmore of South Dakota high school football offensive linemen, and the results are in. The top five emerged in front of everyone else, and there was a tie for fourth place.
Sioux Falls Roosevelt's Mason McCormick, Harrisburg's Trever Smit and Brandon Valley's Hudson Parliament are the top three vote-getters, while Pierre's Grey Zabel and Parkston's Riley Reiff share the last spot.
Here's a deeper dive on the five selections for the top prep offensive linemen in South Dakota history.
Mason McCormick (Sioux Falls Roosevelt Class of 2018)
McCormick was a First Team All-State performer at Sioux Falls Roosevelt, helping the Rough Riders make the Class 11AAA state title game during his senior season. He was also a standout on the track and field team.
McCormick made a name for himself at South Dakota State, earning different All-American honors over his final four seasons as a Jackrabbit. He was a First Team All-American in 2022 and 2023, the FCS Offensive Lineman of the Year in 2023, an All-Missouri Valley Football Conference selection from 2020 to 2023 and a team captain from 2021 to 2023.
The Sioux Falls Roosevelt product was then selected in the fourth round, 117th overall, by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the 2024 NFL Draft. He's appeared in all 34 games for the Steelers over his two years in the league at guard, starting 31. McCormick has been penalized just three times in 1,970 offensive snaps.
Trever Smit (Harrisburg Class of 2027)
Smit is Harrisburg's current left tackle and is smothering in the run game. Standing 6-foot-6, 320 pounds, Smit anchors the Tigers' offensive line. He has the speed to get around defenders and work up the field in the run game, while holding a solid pocket for the passing attack.
Smit is an uncommitted recruit.
Hudson Parliament (Brandon Valley Class of 2026)
Parliament is one of the most accomplished football players in South Dakota history, regardless of position. He's a two-time South Dakota Gatorade Player of the Year, three-time First Team All-State selection, three-time state Offensive Lineman of the Year, four-year starter and a 2025 Class 11AAA state champion. He also won three state powerlifting titles.
Parliament had 267 pancake blocks over his final three years at Brandon Valley and didn't allow a sack over his final two campaigns in a Lynx jersey.
The 6-foot-4, 313-pound lineman will be a first-year player at Iowa in 2026.
Grey Zabel (Pierre Class of 2020)
Zabel was firmly a part of Pierre's Class 11AA dynasty, starting on title teams from 2017 to 2019 that went a combined 31-5. He was a two-time All-State performer and also accumulated 84 tackles, 25 for a loss, and 14 sacks on the defensive side.
He then went to North Dakota State and became a consensus FCS All-American in 2024. Zabel played in 62 games as a Bison, starting the last 31 of those and racking up 41 starts overall. His standout play in 2023 earned him a spot at the 2025 NFL Combine and Senior Bowl.
Zabel was taken in the first round, 18th overall, by the Seattle Seahawks in the 2025 NFL Draft. He started all 17 regular season games in 2025, was penalized five times in 1,051 snaps and won a Super Bowl.
Riley Reiff (Parkston Class of 2008)
Reiff was the South Dakota Gatorade Player of the Year in 2007, his senior season, and a two-time Elite 45 choice. He was a First Team All-State tight end as a senior and a First Team All-State defensive end as a sophomore and junior.
Reiff played his college ball at Iowa and turned into a monster on the offensive line. He was a consensus All-American as a junior in 2011 and named First Team All-Big Ten. He was Second Team All-Big Ten in 2010.
The Parkston product was then taken in the first round, 23rd overall, by the Detroit Lions in the 2012 NFL Draft. Reiff played 12 years in the NFL, starting 149 of the 164 games he played. He played 9,316 snaps in his career and was flagged just 36 times.
