Should the New York Yankees be worried about their bullpen come October?
New York's front office did not address the bullpen at the trade deadline, and a handful of key pieces are out with injuries.
That now includes right-hander Fernando Cruz , who was diagnosed with a partial UCL tear. Tommy John Surgery is on the table.
If Cruz needs full reconstructive surgery, the 36-year-old could miss the entire 2027 season.
Over the last few days, the Yankees have signed veteran right-handers (Justin Topa, Michael Fulmer) to try to clean up their mess from the trade deadline.
"The Yankees are in survival mode with journeymen like Topa/Fulmer until (they hope) they can get [Max Fried] and [Clarke] Schmidt back; maybe [Luis] Gil/[Ryan Weathers] too," the New York Post's Joel Sherman wrote on X.
Sherman believes the Yankees are playing a dangerous game before the postseason.
"This was the danger of not adding arms at the deadline when they had asked a heavy workload of a bunch of their pitchers," Sherman added.

Weathers and Will Warren will hopefully be available as relievers during the playoffs.
The Yankees are unlikely to build Clarke Schmidt as a starter during his rehab assignment from Tommy John Surgery.
For now, manager Aaron Boone will rely on guys like Fulmer and Topa to get important outs.
