Tom Brady has revealed the Las Vegas Raiders’ plan for Fernando Mendoza and Kirk Cousins in the 2026-27 season.
The Raiders selected Mendoza with the first overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft after his standout year with the Indiana Hoosiers.
Many expected the 22-year-old to immediately be the Raiders’ starting quarterback, until they signed Cousins in free agency.
It now appears that they have already decided that Cousins will be the QB1 heading into the new season.

Kirk Cousins has not only joined the Las Vegas Raiders to mentor Fernando Mendoza but also to start ahead of him.
Despite two unsuccessful seasons with the Atlanta Falcons, Cousins has been trusted to lead the Raiders’ offense next season.
However, the decision is part of the Raiders’ plan to ease Mendoza into the NFL rather than throw him in at the deep end.
Seven-time Super Bowl champion Tom Brady reportedly wants Mendoza to progress at a “very slow and casual pace”.
“Absolutely, that’s why they signed him,” Adam Schefter said. “That’s why they were as aggressive as they were to bring him to Las Vegas.
“Tom Brady knew that he wanted a veteran to start the season to take the pressure off Fernando Mendoza.”
It seems likely that Mendoza will replace Cousins later in the season, but there is a chance he does not start until next year.
