Falcons Recap: James Pearce update, B/R names trade target
The Atlanta Falcons will need to hit the ground running when training camp kicks off this week at IBM Performance Field. The rookies have already arrived in Flowery Branch, with veterans set to follow on Tuesday, and the team's first practice scheduled for Wednesday.
Atlanta's open practice schedule begins on Friday, July 31. Fans can attend 10 practices as the team trims its 90-man roster down to 53 players before the NFL cut deadline.

James Pearce Jr. good to go for training camp?
While many anticipate Falcons edge James Pearce Jr. will be suspended, the league sure seems to be taking its time. According to a report from the Atlanta Journal-Constitution's Daniel Flick , Pearce's case remains under review with the NFL. So unless a last-minute ruling comes down before Wednesday, there's a good chance that Pearce will be out there.
“The matter remains under review of the personal conduct policy,” a league spokesperson told Flick.
Raheem Morris to help fill in for Kyle Shanahan
According to a report from ESPN's Adam Schefter and Nick Wagoner , the 49ers will lean on a few assistants, including former Falcons head coach Raheem Morris , to help fill in for Shanahan over the next few weeks.
"Assistant head coach Chris Foerster will assume some of Shanahan's duties until he returns, though Lynch said it will be a group effort to fill in for Shanahan," ESPN explained. "In addition to Foerster, coordinators Raheem Morris (defense), Klay Kubiak (offense) and Brant Boyer (special teams) will take on larger roles, according to Lynch."
Browns WR named ideal Falcons trade target
Falcons GM Ian Cunningham clearly isn't afraid to make a trade, and that might be the team's best option to improve its wide receiver room ahead of training camp. Bleacher Report listed the Falcons as an ideal landing spot for Cleveland Browns wide receiver Cedric Tillman.
"2023 third-round pick Cedric Tillman once looked like a long-term contributor for the Browns, but now, he appears to be on the roster bubble," wrote Kristopher Knox . "Tillman had a bit of a breakout in 2024, racking up 330 yards in a five-game stretch before suffering a season-ending concussion. He was merely a role player this past season, and now, he's probably buried on the depth chart."
Tua Tugovailoa projected for bounce-back season
If Tua Tagovailoa wins the Falcons starting quarterback job, what kind of numbers should fans expect him to produce this season? According to CBS Sports' projection, Tagovailoa will pass for 3,460 yards, 24 touchdowns and 10 interceptions.
"When paired with Mike McDaniel, Tagovailoa looked like an efficient point guard for a high-powered passing attack," wrote Jordan Dajani . "Most of the time. His 44 wins were the most by a Dolphins quarterback since Dan Marino retired, and he led the NFL in passer rating in 2022, passing yards in 2023 and completion percentage in 2024. Then, last season happened. Tagovailoa threw a career-high 15 interceptions and averaged 6.9 yards per attempt, which was his worst mark with McDaniel."
Falcons take Texas WR in CBS Sports' mock draft
Atlanta found a perfect complement to Drake London in a new CBS Sports mock draft from Mike Renner. The Falcons were projected to take Texas wide receiver Cam Coleman with the sixth overall pick in the 2027 NFL Draft.
"Cam Coleman is a wildly explosive 6-foot-3, 200-pound wideout who spent the past two seasons stuck with poor quarterback play at Auburn," wrote Renner . "That changes this year as he heads to Texas to pair with Arch Manning. He should be a household name by season's end."
Falcons training camp: Open practice schedule
Atlanta will hold 12 open practices over a three-week stretch, starting on Friday, July 31, and ending on Thursday, August 20. The final two dates are joint practices with the Indianapolis Colts leading up to their preseason game on Saturday, August 22.
