The 2027 crop is expected to be very strong, at least in relation to other draft classes. So if you are a quarterback, and the option is there for you to enter the draft in 2026 or 2027, obviously it would stand to reason that you could have come out this past spring, instead of next year.
However, doing what might be best, given overall market conditions is a vastly different proposition from doing what is right for the individual. South Carolina quarterback LaNorris Sellers did what is best for himself, both present and future.
He articulated the rationale behind his decision at SEC Media Days this past week.

"Preparing for the long run, yeah I could have rushed and went to the league, (but) who knows what would have happened to my development," Sellers said at the SEC Kickoff event.
"It's good to take another year, take those 12 games, play in college, learn the system, get the new look, the new defenses so I'm prepared for next year or wherever I decide to go."
Sellers took a noticeable step back in 2025, so he's wise to return to school, and work on developing further. When Illinois upset South Carolina in the 2024 Citrus Bowl, the game tape kind of provided some insights into how opposing defenses could effectively gameplan against Sellers.
As a result, his completion percentage, number of TD passes, yards and yards-per-attempt all declined in 2025, from where they were in '24.
However, 2026 is a fresh start and a new beginning for him. With some adjustments and improvements, it could once again be a "Sellers market" for the 2027 draft.
