Jacob caught Duffy Sunday at the Freedom 250 Grand Prix ... and asked about critics who say he should be focused on his Cabinet job instead of filming a reality show.
Duffy pushed back hard ... saying the project cleared ethics review and fits with his role promoting travel and tourism in America.
Duffy claims his department got more money out the door in 18 months than Buttigieg did in four years ... while also touting work on roads, bridges and a new air traffic control system.
He also rejected the idea that the show is just a free vacation ... saying filming was squeezed in with his wife and kids while he kept doing the job.
As we reported ... Duffy's "Great American Road Trip" follows him and his family traveling around the country, and its rollout was recently delayed.
As for critics who still think he's slacking ... Duffy says, "Have at it."
