Was Eric Bieniemy's son arrested?
The Loudon County Sheriff's Office said Elijah Zion Bieniemy is being held without bond in the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center. He is one of two sons to Eric Bieniemy , the longtime offensive coordinator for the Chiefs who spent one season with the Commanders.
Elijah Bieniemy was charged with malicious wounding, use of a firearm in commission of a felony and discharge of a firearm inside of a dwelling, authorities said.
Was Eric Bieniemy's wife shot?
The 27-year-old Elijah Bieniemy was arrested after an adult female — identified by ESPN as 57-year-old Mia Bieniemy, Eric's wife — was found "suffering from multiple gunshot wounds" around 7:30 p.m. Sunday in Ashburn, according to the Loudon County Sheriff's Office . She was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries.
ESPN Chiefs writer Nate Taylor later said Mia Bieniemy was upgraded to stable condition.
A motive for the shooting is unclear as of July 27.
Property records obtained by USA TODAY show Eric and Mia Bieniemy own a house in the same Ashburn neighborhood where deputies said the shooting took place.
The Chiefs said in a statement to USA TODAY that Eric Bieniemy is currently away from the team, just as training camp is about to start.
"The club is aware of the incident involving Eric Bieniemy’s family," the team. "Out of respect for their privacy, we won’t have a comment at this time. Our thoughts and prayers are with them."
