Jaylen Brown understands the sacrifice needed to make the 2026-27 Philadelphia 76ers a title team and is entering the season with the perfect attitude.
Brown was traded to the 76ers after the Boston Celtics failed to make a move for Giannis Antetokounmpo.
That move inevitably led LeBron James to join the 76ers for a title push. But this also means Brown will need to sacrifice even more than he ever did in Boston due to the top-heavy nature of his new team.
Jaylen Brown is going into the 76ers season with no ego
ESPN’s Shams Charania has revealed that Brown is committed to playing a team role to maximize the 76ers’ chances of a title, going into the season with no ego.
“There’s gonna be so much sacrifice that’s gonna go into next season. And one person around Jaylen Brown told me today, he’s gonna approach this with no ego.”
Going into a season with no ego might not be a problem, but sticking to that mentality for an entire season with its highs and lows will be even more important.
Brown will have to embrace not being the No. 1 option, with LeBron expected to be their playmaking point guard who sets up Maxey and Brown in off-ball scoring situations.
If Brown performs at the level he did in Boston when he averaged 28.7 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 5.1 assists, he likely will be the 76ers’ primary option, as they focus on merit in their title push.
The 76ers have to solve an offensive puzzle
Maxey and Brown are coming off seasons as the bona fide No. 1 options for their teams.
James has already adjusted to being a third option, so he can definitely use his basketball IQ to simplify the game for his teammates.

Even though Joel Embiid might struggle with availability, the team will have to focus on getting him the ball when he’s healthy and available, as he might be their actual best scorer.
In terms of scoring, James likely ends up No. 4 on this team but might also have the highest usage rate as their primary playmaker.
The defense is an entirely different issue altogether. But this version of the 76ers will try to prove that talent can win out over a well-fitting roster, especially if the designed system can maximize their talent.
