Saturday Night Open Thread: Paper doesn’t mean anything

Live from Delaware, it’s Saturday Night! I, NAS204PSU,  am here at BTSC  to bring you this Saturday Night Open Thread (aka SNOT).

The first preseason game is in the books, and the good guys reportedly looked good. However it’s a “meaningless” preseason game, in that it doesn’t impact regular season standings or playoff hopes. But for many at the end of the roster, this is like a job interview, building a “portfolio” of plays, hoping to catch on somewhere. And while the score might not matter,  Mike McCarthy was quoted long ago as saying “Really, I learned a long time ago that in the National Football League paper doesn’t mean anything. Football teams are created on the football field.” And this was our Steelers playing on the football field, so the 2026 Steelers continue to be created.

This 4 pack of questions is here to get the conversation going, and also let us know what you’re eating/drinking!

1)  Homer J wants to know whaddyinz think of the current draft class . I’ll ask, whaddyinz think of  the 2026 free agent class?

For some reason, our front office listened to our rivals  and “got Benton” (signed).

2) Is this a good deal or are you getting Benton out of shape over it?

Lions QB Teddy Bridgewater says his sudden re-retirement is official , and former Steeler Josh Dobbs was signed to be the Lions backup. Teddy was a potential franchise QB before he almost lost his leg at the knee after a 2016 preseason practice injury.

3a) If Teddy’s leg and knee didn’t try to divorce, give me an NFL QB career that Teddy might have had.

3b) The Passtronaut went back to Detriot, and I root hard for that guy. Do you still hope Dobby’s career takes off?

I recently spent 30+ min chauffeuring my teenage daughter’s friend. To fill the time, we talked about a lot of movies and books. The friend was surprised to learn Jurassic Park was a book. I also quickly realized that I had not kept up with horror movies in the past 20-ish years as well as I would have guessed.

4) Which makes you feel older: realizing how many decades ago your favorite media was made, OR figuring out how many new movies/books etc. have come and gone without your notice?
