Happy Sunday Husky fans. It’s a little quiet on the recruiting front right now, but today I wanted to talk about the 2028 class and who could potentially be the first commit in the class (with the majority of the 2027 class already committed).
My first instinct is to look locally and here are some players I could see that might commit at some point over the next several months:
3 star safety Markel Newell from Puyallup HS, has been a target for the Huskies for a long time and is a player the Huskies have been recruiting for a long time. Many believe he is very similar to former Husky great Budda Baker and Newell has a similar frame (5’9” and around 190 pounds). If Newell could be anywhere near Baker he would be a massive addition for any college program, and so far Arizona, ASU, Boise State and WSU have extended offers for Newell. Last season Newell had 50 total tackles, 6TFL’s, and 1 Int.
Currently unranked linebacker Ioelu Feo from Bethel HS, WA is another player I am monitoring. The Huskies have had massive success from Bethel with 2 current Huskies on the roster (Zaydrius Rainey-Sale, and Ramzak Fruean). Listed at 6’2” and round 210 pounds Feo has great size for the position and reminds me a lot of Rainey-Sale. Feo camped with the Huskies this summer and got an offer during the camp after showing off his abilities in front of the coaches. The linebacker room has gotten bigger and looked for larger frames over the last couple of years and Feo fits the mold that they are looking for.
4 star defensive lineman Aedyn Havili from Eastside Catholic is the 2nd rated player in-state and a massive target for the Huskies (both literally and figuratively for the Huskies). Listed at 6’2” and around 320 pounds Havili is massive and has already been offered by LSU, Michigan, Ohio State, Oregon, Penn State, and UCLA. The Huskies are the local school and it sounds like Havili is very interested in playing in front of his family in college. Last season he had 33 total tackles, 7.5 sacks and 7TFL’s.

There are plenty of other in-state prospects who could pull the trigger early, and it will be interesting to see who ends up in the P&G in-state in the 2028 class (it’s another good class and the Huskies have done a good job in positioning themselves early). That is all for today and as always follow me @asieverkropp.
