The New England Patriots turned back the intensity on Sunday. After a full pads session on Saturday and another expected to come on Monday, head coach Mike Vrabel opted for a walkthrough.
To recap it, please head over to our Patriots training camp notebook . In the meantime, here is who caught our eyes.
Standout of the day
N/A: Considering that the Patriots held a walkthrough on Sunday, we will refrain from naming one individual player as today’s standout. The day was not about performance and competition, after all, but more on mental work and — from our point of view — who was part of which groups.
Other performances of note
RB Lan Larison and RB Jam Miller: Larison was with the starting offensive group on Sunday working with quarterback Drake Maye as the No. 3 running back. He additionally also served as part of the top kickoff returner pairing alongside Kyle Williams. Miller, meanwhile, seemingly remains behind him on the depth chart for both roles despite a solid showing in the preseason opener.
TE Tanner Arkin: Despite seeing consistent starter reps earlier in camp, Arkin did not join Drake Maye and company in the practice bubble on Sunday. He stayed outdoors with the backups providing looks for the starting defense, while only Hunter Henry and Eli Raridon went indoors.
DT Isaiah Iton: With Christian Barmore still absent, Iton was the fourth defensive tackle to run with the top-level unit of Milton Williams, Cory Durden and Joshua Farmer. The Rutgers product was a dark-horse roster candidate last summer already, and could be in the process of becoming the same in 2026.
ED Quintayvious Hutchins: The seventh-round rookie found himself among the first-team edges on Sunday. His group also included Dre’Mont Jones, who was back after exiting Saturday’s practice, as well as Gabe Jacas and Elijah Ponder. Maybe it’s a sign of things to come for the youngster, who has had some solid moments this summer.
S John Saunders Jr: Coming off a good week that saw him catch an interception in both the joint practice with the Colts and the subsequent preseason game, Saunders Jr. was given reps with the starting defense on Sunday. He served as a fourth safety behind Kevin Byard, Craig Woodson and Dell Pettus.
The Patriots will be back on Monday for another session closed to the general public. As always, Pats Pulpit will have you covered and bring you updates straight from Foxborough.
