Victims killed in In-N-Out Burger shooting remembered by grieving relatives

Two of the three victims killed in a shooting at an In-N-Out Burger restaurant in Idaho have been identified by their families, including one who was described as someone who "lit up a room with her bright smile" and another who had found sobriety after overcoming the death of his newlywed wife.

Christopher Claunch and Ashley Garibay were killed during a shooting rampage on Saturday at one of the fast-food chain's eateries in Twin Falls, Idaho, their families said.

The suspected shooter , identified as 24-year-old Chad Williams, died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound after two armed Good Samaritans returned fire, according to police.

A third victim who was killed has not yet been publicly identified.

Seven other people were wounded in the shooting, including two who were critically injured, authorities said.

Family members said Ashley Garibay worked as an In-N-Out Burger associate in California, but traveled to Twin Falls to help train the staff at the chain's newly opened restaurant.

“We are heartbroken and devastated by the loss of Ashley – a devoted daughter, sister, auntie, cousin and friend – whose life was taken from us far too soon," Garibay's family said in a statement.

Relatives said Garibay's landed her first job working at an In-N-Out Burger restaurant in Stockton, California, and "fell in love with it."

"She proudly traveled to open new stores, and her dream was to one day manage an In-N-Out store. She was passionate about serving Customers and left this world doing what she loved to do," the family's statement said.

Garibay was described by her family as "a devoted daughter, sister, auntie, cousin and friend -- whose life was taken from us far too soon."

"Ashley was an amazing, beautiful soul who loved living life," her family said. "She was adventurous, outgoing, smart and driven, never letting obstacles get in her way. She lit up a room with her bright smile and a laugh that was contagious. She was a friend to all, and no matter what difficulties she was facing, she always found a way to help others find the light in the darkness."

A California native, 59-year-old Christopher Claunch fell in love with Idaho and decided to move there three decades ago, according to his sister, Kimberly Castaneda.

Castaneda told The New York Times that her brother worked at the Renaissance Ranch Recovery Center in Rupert, Idaho.

Claunch had found sobriety two years ago after struggling with alcoholism for many years, his sister told the Times.

She told The New York Times that her brother's first wife died in a car crash just three months after they were married and that "he had always hurt from that loss."

After moving to Idaho 30 years ago, Claunch met his partner of 25 years, Teresa Sperry, whom he shared a home with.

Sperry told the Times that Claunch loved traveling, cooking and the outdoors.

Castaneda said her brother would make it a point to eat at an In-N-Out Burger every time he visited the California, where the fast-food chain was founded and where it's restaurants are primarily located.

When the In-N-Out Burger in Twin Falls opened last month, Castaneda said her brother told her he was looking forward to going there, but planned to wait, "knowing the hype would only cause long lines."

"You have no idea how surprised I was when I found out he was there," Castaneda told the Times.
