Paige Bueckers Gives Honest Reaction to Azzi Fudd's 3-Point Contest Win

Dallas Wings teammates Paige Bueckers and Azzi Fudd both participated in the recent WNBA All-Star activities in Chicago, with Bueckers suiting up as a starter in the annual game.

While Fudd wasn't among the selections for this year's game, she became the fourth rookie to compete in the 3-Point Contest and then made WNBA history as the first rookie ever to win the contest.

Following Fudd's historic win, Bueckers was asked for her reaction to seeing her former UConn and current Wings teammate claim the trophy in Chicago.

"Obviously, Azzi winning the 3-point competition was huge. I think the first rookie ever to do it, so that was awesome. We kind of all expected it and knew that's kinda like what she's born to do," she said.

Fudd achieved a final-round score of 30 points to set the bar high for her opponent, Portland's Bridget Carleton, who was unable to match the score. That gave the "People's Princess" the trophy, following in the footsteps of previous winner, Sabrina Ionescu of the New York Liberty.

Bueckers and teammate Jessica Shepard both played in this year's All-Star Game as starters, representing the Wings. Bueckers called it an "awesome experience" to share that moment with her.

"Just speaks to the excitement of what we have building here," she said regarding all of the Wings after the past week's events. "I think we have a great representation, even people who didn't make the All-Star team and didn't get to make it out there. We feel very confident in who we have on this team."

As they return to regular-season games out of the break, the Wings are 18-9 and fourth in the Western Conference Division with 17 games remaining on their schedule. Bueckers leads the team in scoring with 20.9 points per game and assists with 6.2 per game.

Meanwhile, Shepard is averaging a double-double of 14.9 points and 12 rebounds per game, with Arike Ogunbowale and Fudd also averaging double-digit scoring. It's made the Wings one of the highest-scoring teams in the W, averaging 90.2 points per game.

As of this writing, only the Las Vegas Aces, Minnesota Lynx, and Indiana Fever average more points per game than Dallas. The Aces are the reigning champions, while the Lynx have become a serious contender to claim the championship this year.

That said, the Wings are not a team to sleep on, as they've certainly shown they can beat the best in the league. They defeated the Aces by 30 points in a WNBA Commissioner's Cup game in June, and beat the Liberty 88-77 in New York earlier this month.

Along with that, the Wings started their season by defeating Caitlin Clark and the Fever 107-104, which certainly has fans in Dallas believing in this team's potential to make a serious run at the title in the future.
