The Athletic predicts Texas A&M football's valuation

This week, The Athletic (subscription required) published an article titled "What if college football teams could be sold? Ranking Power 4 teams by their valuation," which, for those who have been paying attention to where college football is headed, shows none of these projections are out of the realm of possibility. Still, this is simply an exercise for fans/alum who are interested in knowing their team's monetary value.

Conference realignment has all but destroyed the college football we used to know, as the SEC, Big Ten, Big 12, and ACC make up the Power Four conferences that all but represent the landscape, while the schools with the largest alumni/donor base, which includes Texas A&M , have thrived in the age of NIL collectives, which has resulted in coach Mike Elko landing top-ranked transfer portal class, and currently holds the No. 1-ranked 2027 recruiting class.

After making the College Football Playoff for the first time in program history last season, Elko isn't looking to slow down after a record 10 players were selected in the 2026 NFL Draft, returning 65% of the 2025 roster, combined with 40-plus newcomers from the transfer portal and 2026 signing class.

Author Matt Baker broke down his value rankings using "theoretical sales prices" and, with the consistent support from the Aggie faithful, who were recently ranked as the second "most loyal" fanbase in the country. Making the CFP with Elko at the helm will further increase revenue.

Last year, Texas A&M's potential value ranked 15th at $973 million, while the Aggies' came in 17th at $1.05 billion ahead of the 2026 season.

"The Tigers, Cornhuskers and Huskies have all averaged about $120 million in football revenue. The Aggies are a notch behind ($105 million), but we’re lumping them in the same group because their location and alumni size give them a higher upside. Last year’s CFP appearance was a point of vindication for A&M, too. Auburn was the only one of these programs in our $1 billion club last year."

Texas A&M has been widely regarded as a "sleeping giant" in college football given the large alumni base and steadfast support, and if Elko continues to prove his worth after signing his six-year extension this offseason, I fully expect the Aggies to rise in value.
