The mountain, nicknamed the "Beast of Provence", rises at an average gradient of 8.8% over 15.7km, the final 1.7km stretching up to 9.4%. This and the Stage 4 ITT will ultimately determine the race's outcome.

While Vollering and Niewiadoma have each made the podium at every edition of the TdF Femmes, van der Breggen has twice seen Grand Tour glory slip away on the final day of racing.
