Nick Bosa came into last season with pressure to rebound after a disappointing 2024 campaign. Despite appearing in 14 games, he posted just nine sacks — his lowest total since his 2019 rookie year, aside from his injury-riddled 2020 season — as the San Francisco 49ers fell to 6-11 and missed the playoffs for the first time since 2020.
That ended his streak of three straight double-digit-sack seasons, and it was the second time in his career in which he missed multiple games due to injury.
Yet 2025 was even worse. His season got cut short after he tore his ACL for the second time in his NFL career, just three games in. As an explosive edge rusher who's now dealt with multiple injuries in recent years, including two ACL tears, it raised immediate concerns heading into the offseason.
But on Monday, new defensive coordinator Raheem Morris eased some of those concerns. "To watch that guy, what he's able to do, the amount of power he plays with, the speed, the presence — he's one of the calmest players I've ever been around in my life. He brings this certain ease and a certain ability to move effortlessly every single day ... He looks excellent."

Morris was brought in to replace Robert Saleh as 49ers DC after Saleh took the Titans' head coaching job in January. Morris formerly worked as DC with the Los Angeles Rams from 2021 to 2023 before taking the head coaching job with the Atlanta Falcons.
Morris was fired after the 2025 season, his third with the Falcons, and was hired by San Francisco in February, reuniting with Kyle Shanahan. The two had previously worked together in Washington and Atlanta years ago.

Morris now takes over a defense that has been one of the best units in football since Shanahan took over in 2017. With Bosa and All-Pro linebacker Fred Warner both healthy and active for training camp, this team is ready to reclaim its spot atop the NFC West.
