PETS & ANIMALS Public invited to send notes of encouragement for Big Bear eagle Jackie, care team Thursday, August 6, 2026 11:00PM Jackie had a "significant day" Wednesday and is back in her recovery enclosure receiving supplemental oxygen. OJAI, Calif. (KABC) -- The Ojai Raptor Center is inviting the public to send cards and notes of encouragement for beloved Big Bear bald eagle Jackie and the team caring for her.
NOTE: The video in the player above is from a recent report.
In a message shared on social media on Thursday, the center said several people had asked whether they could mail messages of support for Jackie, referring to her as Patient 26-519, or the staff involved in her care.
"The answer is absolutely!" the center said.
The organization said it "would be honored to receive your cards and messages" and plans to display them at the center for staff members to see.
"Your words of encouragement have meant more to us during these past few weeks than you may realize," the center said.
People who would like to send a card or note can mail it to:
Ojai Raptor Center Attn: Patient 26-519 P.O. Box 182 Oak View, CA 93022
The center thanked supporters for their concern for wildlife and for the people who care for injured animals.
On Wednesday, the Ojai Raptor Center said Jackie had had a "significant day" while being treated for her illness.
"She underwent further advanced diagnostics, including a contrast CT scan and bone marrow biopsy," the Ojai Raptor Center said in a statement. "She recovered well from anesthesia and is back in her recovery enclosure receiving supplemental oxygen."
The wildlife center said its veterinary team along with an advisory council and consulting specialists are reviewing the findings alongside Jackie's previous test results.
"Additional lab work is still pending. We will share a more comprehensive update once we have had the opportunity to review everything," the Raptor Center said.
After Jackie was rescued, experts said she was anemic with inflammation affecting her kidneys. She received a life-saving blood transfusion from a fellow female eagle named Spirit, who is a resident at CALM Zoo in Bakersfield.
"Thank you for your continued encouragement and support as we work to give Patient 26-519 the very best care we can," the Raptor Center said.
Jackie is one half of the beloved bald eagle couple captured on Friends of Big Bear Valley's (FOBBV) live nest camera with her partner, Shadow.
The nest has been empty as of late. On Thursday, a subadult eagle, about 4 years old, was seen spending some time on the nest. As for the Big Bear eaglets that hatched earlier this year, they haven't been seen in days and it's possible they're gone for good.
"They can fly far and wide. So they can fly all the way up to Yellowstone or even Canada," said Jenny Voisard, spokesperson for Friends of Big Bear Valley.
Since mating season doesn't begin until the end of autumn, Jackie has some time to recover and officials say time is on their side.
