Howie Roseman praises Jalen Hurts but stays silent on extension

Howie Roseman remains impressed with how Jalen Hurts has handled everything the Philadelphia Eagles have placed in front of him. During an appearance with Kay Adams, Philadelphia’s general manager was asked about Hurts and the possibility of another contract extension. Roseman did not offer any indication that an agreement was close, but he provided another strong endorsement of the Eagles ’ franchise quarterback.

“When you are around somebody for as long as you’ve been around, you’ve got a pretty good feel about who the person is and who the player is,” Roseman said.

Hurts signed a five-year, $255 million extension in April 2023 that keeps him under contract through the 2028 season. The Eagles have time before another agreement becomes necessary, but the quarterback market continues to rise, and Philadelphia has regularly moved early to retain its cornerstone players.

Roseman focused on Hurts’ ability to handle change.

The 28-year-old is learning from his sixth offensive coordinator since joining the Eagles as a second-round pick in 2020. Philadelphia’s offense has changed repeatedly, but Hurts has led the team to two Super Bowl appearances and was named MVP of Super Bowl LIX.

“He’s been thrown a lot of offensive coordinators at him, and he hasn’t blinked,” Roseman said. “The guy continuously overcomes adversity, never complains and puts his head down and goes to work.”

Roseman also praised Hurts for understanding the expectations that come with playing quarterback in Philadelphia.

“He knows what it means to be an Eagle, and I think that’s a great example for what we’re looking for,” Roseman said. “I’m excited for him with the players he has around him, the leadership he displays and the coaching staff.”

The answer was a clear endorsement, not a contract update. Hurts remains signed for three more seasons, giving Roseman little reason to reveal the Eagles’ plans before the organization is ready to act. For the moment, Roseman is focused on Hurts’ continued development and his transition into Sean Mannion’s offense. Whether that confidence eventually leads to another extension remains unanswered.
