Press Room | Comments after Juventus-Como Women
The Juventus Women's First Team beat Como Women 2-1 in their third pre-season friendly of the summer.
The goals came from Emma Stolen Godo and Ana Capeta at Vinovo, and the win comes after victories against Servette and Aarau. Estela Carbonell and coach Isaac Guerrero spoke to the press after the match.
ESTELA CARBONELL
“We’re going through a period of change, with a different approach to the game and to managing possession. However, I believe this team has the qualities to put this style of football into practice and, above all, has the conviction and enthusiasm to do so. You can feel a new energy and, training session after training session, we’re improving a great deal. I’m sure that before long we’ll see a team that’s even more different and that we’ll be able to have a good Champions League campaign and a good league season. We’re ready, even if it’s normal that it takes a bit of time at the start to take it all in. There’s a real desire to learn, to try new things, and we have a truly special group of people, which will make this journey even more enjoyable. The manager gives me plenty of freedom to play my own style of football, and I like that. Full-backs are asked to play their role in a more dynamic way, moving into the centre of the pitch and switching positions. It’s a freer style of play, very similar to what I’ve always played in Spain, and I feel at ease. The idea is to draw the opposition out through possession to create the right spaces to attack. What’s more, having so many Spanish players is definitely a positive: we share the same footballing culture and that helps. Isaac always speaks Italian; we understand him and, at the same time, we teach our teammates a bit of Spanish. We’re really building a wonderful team.”
ISAAC GUERRERO
“What we’re trying to build is a courageous team, capable of imposing its own style of play and always taking the initiative when in possession. Sometimes we manage it better, other times a little less so, but the girls’ intention is always to be proactive. I must congratulate the squad because they’re performing beyond expectations. Today was another very useful test: Como gave us a tough time, and that helps us to improve. We’re trying to be more selective in our play, including with our crosses; we don’t want to put the ball into the box just for the sake of it, but to create genuinely dangerous situations. The girls are putting this idea into practice with great quality. Our preparations are inevitably affected by the very tight schedule, but we’re pleased with how things are going. The players are now racking up more minutes and managing to maintain greater consistency on the pitch, with very positive responses from a physical standpoint too, despite the fact that our style of football is very intense and physically demanding. Tactically, we’re asking the girls to explore different roles and positions as well: this is an important step forward both for them and for the team, which is gaining more options. I believe that our physical and tactical development are progressing hand in hand. I’m pleased with the team’s response: every training session is approached with great enthusiasm and a desire to improve. We’re continuing to work day in, day out, analysing what’s working and what we can still optimise.”
